Postdoctoral Fellow
Brendan Moran
Dr. Moran is a Research Scientist at the University of Massachusetts Amherst in the Department of Earth, Geographic, and Climate Sciences and part of the Lithium Solutions team led by Dr. David Boutt and Dr. LeeAnn Munk. He has been working to understand the many complexities of the natural hydrological systems where lithium resources occur since 2015.
Postdoctoral Fellow
Nicole Blin
Dr. Blin studied Civil Engineering at Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile, specializing in Hydraulic Engineering and Hydrogeology. Her research primarily focuses on the impacts of climate change on groundwater dynamics, basins of the Andean Altiplano, employing advanced groundwater modeling, innovative remote sensing techniques, and statistical processing of General Circulation Models (GCMs). Dr. Blin has made professional contributions through consulting hydrogeological projects with DICTUC in Chile. She is currently a Postdoctoral Research Associate at the University of Massachusetts Amherst.
Graduate Student
Daniel Corkran
Mr. Corkran has ten years of experience in environmental and geotechnical consulting. He specializes in hydrogeologic investigations, digital data collection, and groundwater flow modeling. His current research interests include variable-density flow modeling in brine-freshwater systems and groundwater responses to climate change.
Graduate Student
Rachel King
Ms. King is a master's student in the research group. She is studying the mechanisms of streamflow within ephemeral and intermittent streams in the high Andes. Her research interests include groundwater-surface water interactions, geophysics, and arid hydrology.
Graduate Student
Julianna Huba
Ms. Huba is a master’s student in the group. As an undergraduate at Lafayette College,
she studied stream morphology around Beaver Dam Analogues and gravity anomalies
in Pennsylvania. Her current research interests include groundwater-surface water
interactions, changes in water resources due to climate change, and geophysics.
Graduate Student
Tyler DeShong
Mr DeShong is a master’s student in the research group. As an undergraduate at Middlebury College, he studied passive margin uplift and drainage network evolution in the Adirondack Mountains. He has since worked in Vermont’s climate policy sector to increase energy resilience in municipal buildings. His research interests include groundwater flow and transport, fluvial geomorphology, and remote sensing.
Research Fellow
Alexander Kirshen
Mr. Kirshen is a post-graduate Research Fellow in the Boutt group and an alumni of the University of Massachusetts Amherst. He has three years of hydrogeologic research experience with focus on developing 3D geologic and groundwater flow models, interpreting geophysical data, and understanding basin-scale water budgets.
Undergraduate Students
Undergraduate Research Assistant
Ms. Bresee is an undergraduate geology major in the lab group. With involvement in the Boutt Hydrology group and the Massachusetts DEP, she aims to concentrate her studies in hydrology and geochemistry.
Magdalen Bresee
Undergraduate Research Assistant
Ms. Papas is a senior undergraduate; double majoring in Biology and Earth Systems with a minor in Environmental Science. She preps and runs water samples on the Picarro Isotopic H2O Analyzer. She is also involved with creating ArcGIS storyboards to present information from various projects within the hydrology group. Her interests lie in environmental management and protection.
Katherine Papas
Undergraduate Research Assistant
Ms. Witt is a senior Earth Systems major in the lab group. She is doing research focused on her interests of hydrogeology and geochemistry. Sarah is also completing a business minor.
Sarah Witt
Undergraduate Research Assistant
Ms. Boudreau is a senior Environmental Science major. While working in Dr. Boutt's lab, she will investigate the Quabbin Reservoir Watershed to observe hydrological changes in response to weather events and climate change. Using the hydrological experiences obtained in this lab she hopes to learn more about contaminant fate in the subsurface to secure safe drinking water resources.
Emily Boudreau
Undergraduate Research Assistant
Ms. Grimm is a senior undergraduate Environmental Science major with a minor in Natural Resource Conservation and Geographic Information Systems & Technology. She currently helps in the lab group with Remote Sensing and GIS projects.
